Many people are aware of Adobe Photoshop, as well as its counterpart, Adobe Illustrator. More people tend to wane towards Photoshop for photo editing, while others prefer to utilize Illustrator for original illustrations (as implied by the title. However, there are people that do not know the difference between the two Adobe software, or have only heard of Photoshop, similarly to me. Photoshop is the optimal choice for editing images that have already been created. It utilizes bitmap, which is a more precise way to color and remodel a graphic using individual pixels. Photoshop possesses many different types of filters, tools, options, and effects. For example, it has the infamous "layer mask" effect, which affects the appearance of a certain image over another. The image with the layer mask can appear transparent, or with a special brush effect. You can also change the color balance of an image, and can eliminate any "imperfections" such as pimples, scars, and bumps. Using Photoshop can lead to creating some cool images such as the surreal portrait that I created. Illustrator and Photoshop share similar features, such as certain tools and options, but is primarily used for creating graphics instead of editing them. Unlike its counterpart, Illustrator produces vector graphics, which are created via "mathematical constructs," as stated by pluralsight.com. The image can increase or decrease in size while retaining its resolution, which is one of the flaws of Photoshop. Illustrator can also be used to "edit and customize text in many ways to create striking typography," according to adobe.com. Overall, Illustrator is optimal for creating logos and designs, especially for advertisements. Examples of an Illustrator product include a hijab avatar, as well as text with a peeling effect, both of which were designed by me. Both programs have their fortes, as well as their shortcomings. In order to use each program efficiently, one must know what they are trying to create, and how they are going to do so. Recap:

Netflix is arguably the most famous media-streaming site, due to its abundance of TV shows, movies, and more. It celebrated its twenty-year anniversary earlier this year, which made many people happy to see how much Netflix has improved over the two decades. While all Netflix users possess their own Netflix account, most decide to share their account with those that they trust so they do not have to pay for Netflix's services. Unfortunately, being one of the most used streaming sites carry problems, such as database leaks and piracy. According to bgr.com, Netflix has begun to increase its efforts in counteracting piracy. Executives at the company have expressed their approval of sharing passwords. Certain people choose to download and/or stream Netflix's films from illegal websites. They choose to do this because certain shows are not accessible in certain places, or because they simply do not wish to pay for the monthly services, which currently stands at a minimum of eight dollars. Netflix has directed more than a million requests to Google alone asking them to take down the illegitimate websites as of last year. The company even has a job listing that describes the role and requirements of those that are assigned to the position of copyright and content protection, as well as a job application at the bottom of the page. "The ideal candidate will have carried out a similar role at another company and can hit the ground running," according to the job listing. "He or she should have experience of anti-piracy initiatives and be very well versed in managing an effective notice and take down program and experience of working with YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Google, Bing, VK, Daily Motion and other well known platforms." According to the article, Netflix also wants to ally themself with "takedown" services. It is obvious that Netflix wants to put a stop to piracy in order to preserve and protect their videos, especially the Netflix originals. This means that it will only get harder for pirates to illegally download their shows. Piracy itself is a very serious crime, which can (and most likely will) lead to the owner of the content pursuing legal action. The best way to avoid said legal action, of course, is to not do it at all. Recap:

When viewing a work of art, people primarily tend to focus on the image itself rather than the smaller, yet important details. For instance, most people will agree that the Mona Lisa is an exceptional work of art without thinking about what makes it look professional. To them, it simply looks like a masterpiece. While the elements and principles of design is a modern concept, it still applies to older works of art. It is important to consider them when creating a design so it is pleasing to the eyes of the viewer. There are many elements and principles of design, some of which include proportion, perspective, emphasis, movement, and unity. Of course, many of us are familiar with some of the principles without realizing it. Proportion simply describes the size of an image in relation to another. If two boxes of equal size are placed side-by-side, then they are proportional, If both boxes are placed beside a tree that is taller than them, then they are both proportional to that tree. This goes hand-in-hand with perspective since certain objects will appear smaller or larger depending on the positioning. Fox example, if a word is spelled out across a canvas, and they all are the same size, then it is understood that the reality, the letters are the same size. However, if the word slowly trails off in the distance, despite being the same size, the letters in the distance appear smaller than the ones up close. The same idea applies to drawings and designs Emphasis is the accentuated feature of a certain object. This element causes a certain aspect of a drawing to become the main focus. This is frequently achieved using contrast tools, such as glow and color. For example, a sketch of a group of people looking at a light bulb may seem uninteresting at first. In order to make the light bulb stand out, one might choose to darken the areas around the light bulb to illustrate that it is the main focus. Movement is a unique element of design, in that it primarily applies to a finished illustration rather than a work in progress. Movement describes the path that your eyes follow to get to the focal point of a design based on certain details. Focal points are the main points of interest of a design, such as a face or weapon. In order to understand the path to a focal point, one must use the subtle details throughout the drawing. For instance, the focal point of a drawing could be the face of a man holding a sword upwards. The curve of the sword could point to the man's head, which depicts a path. If the man's thumb is pointing to his face, then that would also be a path. The main rule when it comes to movement is that the slightest detail could illustrate a path. According to edb.utexas.edu, "Unity means the harmony of the whole composition. The parts of a composition made to work together as a total visual theme." The images in a drawing must convey a similar tone. For example, if you were drawing a picture of a sad person, you might want to make the background colors dark since dark colors are associated with somber, melancholy moods. You also might want to make the scene cloudy and rainy as both are associated with sadness. You might not want to add any bright colors to the drawing, as it could relay the opposite tone to the viewer. In order to display unity, you must know what type of message and/or feeling you want the drawing to express. As previously stated, there are many other types of elements and principles of design. However, utilizing all of them is not required. What's important is that you know how, why, and when you are using them. Recap:

One of the most fundamental rules of production is plagiarism. It is illegal to steal someone else's content and claim it as your own without permission. Once someone puts their idea down on paper (literally or digitally), it is automatically copyrighted, which means that they are the only person that can create their idea. Plagiarizing another person's work is not only villainous from a moral standpoint, but the original owner can sue you for doing so. The only instances where utilizing someone else's work in your project is tolerable are by asking for permission from the owner, or by giving them credit. For example, quoting someone in an essay and stating the source of the quote is acceptable. However, there are no exceptions for "accidental" plagiarism. If you quoted someone in your essay and forgot to give credit, you will be penalized for it. There are varying degrees to the penalties of plagiarism. In school, plagiarism will at least earn you a zero on the assignment. In college, however, plagiarism can lead to expulsion from the school. Outside of academic purposes, the original owner of the content can pursue legal actions (a.k.a suing). "Over 50,000 students in the UK alone have been caught for plagiarism in the last 3 year," according to scanmyessay.com. "These may seem very harsh words, but it is no exaggeration to say that for a moment of foolishness, you may be sacrificing your entire academic career." It is very easy to get caught plagiarizing literary works as well, due to the abundance of online plagiarism checkers. All that the checker requires is an excerpt from your paper, and it will automatically search for any articles, websites, or the like that have the same excerpt. The only thing that you can legally use from another person for personal use are ideas. Be that as it may, it depends on whether or not the person has tangible evidence of the idea (i.e. writing it down, drawing it). If they do not possess a tangible form of it, then it is technically not plagiarism. As explained at the beginning, possessing a tangible form of the idea means that it cannot be implemented by another person. While this seems wrong from a moral standpoint, the law does not prohibit it, therefore there is nothing preventing you from doing so. In short, plagiarism can either protect you or harm you, so be mindful of implementing other people's work into your own. Recap:
